German Education Ministry -- Climate Change and Developing Countries CLIENT 2010-2012

The German Education Ministry (BMBF) funds CLIENT -- “International Partnerships for Sustainable Technologies and Services for Climate Protection and the Environment." CLIENT makes grants for German research in collaboration with partners in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Vietnam. Priorities in the CLIENT program are climate protection, resource efficiency, land management, and water management. In the first phase of applications, the German partner sends a detailed project outline to BMBF before 31 August 2010; 31 August 2011; and 31 August 2012. Link

Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) – COMSTECH-TWAS Research Grants 2012

Grants up to US$15 thousand are available to individual young scientists in countries belonging to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Renewable energy is among the eligible subject areas. The application deadline is 31 August each year. Link

Colorado State University -- Training in Protected Areas Management

Colorado State University, in collaboration with partner organizations in the USA, announces its annual one-month course in protected areas management to be held July-August 2012 in the western USA. Participants are invited from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries (the course will be given in Spanish). The university suggests where to look for funding support. Applications are due by 02 March 2012. Link

Agropolis Foundation and Cariplo Foundation -- Call for Proposals in Rice Research

Agropolis Fondation (France) and Fondazione Cariplo (Italy) announce a call under the French-Italian Rice Science and Technology (FIRST) Initiative. The partnership aims to promote joint research that will have a high impact in rice growing in developing countries. Proposals should involve at least one partner from France, one from Italy, and one from a Southern/Mediterranean country. The minimum grant size is €300 thousand. The submission deadline is 12 March 2012. Link

U.S. Department of Agriculture -- Borlaug Fellowship Program, Female Applicants 2012

The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service, in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development, administers the "Feed the Future 21st Century Borlaug Leadership Program" to support training and research in agriculture. This current call is for female applicants to increase the number of women in leadership positions. Grants are for 6-12 weeks of collaboration in the USA, followed by continuation of the partnership in the applicant's home country. Application are invited from early to mid-career female professionals in the following countries: AFRICA -- Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia; ASIA -- Bangladesh; and LATIN AMERICA -- Guatemala, Haiti, and Honduras. The deadline for applications is 06 April 2012. Link

Pan-American Institute of Geography and History (IPGH) -- Technical Cooperation and Capacity Building 2013

The IPGH makes project grants and training grants in support of its Agenda 2010-2020. Themes in sustainable development include climate change, land-use planning, and natural disasters in member countries of the Organization of American States. Proposals need to include institutions in at least two OAS countries. Project grants are a maximum of US$8 thousand. The deadline for proposals is 30 April 2012. Link

ETH Zurich -- Research Fellow Partnership Program

ETH offers doctoral and post-doctoral research fellowships in agriculture, forestry, and natural resources related to development. Fellows in RFPP are Swiss residents under age 36, and citizens of developing and transition countries through age 40. Projects have to be embedded in research partnerships between a CGIAR center (or equivalent) and ETH Zurich. The next application deadline is 30 June 2012. Link

Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) -- Climate Change in the Caribbean Region

The CDKN is collaborating with the CARIBSAVE Partnership to fund research related to climate change in the Caribbean. The priorities are: (i) responding to climate change impacts, and (ii) policies and processes for development compatible with climate change. Grants range from US$45 thousand to US$90 thousand for periods of 12-18 months. Proposals must include at least one research organization from each country where the research is to be conducted, whether a project is national or regional. The closing date for expressions of interest is 09 March 2012. Link

African Climate Change Fellowship Program -- Teaching Fellowships 2012

The ACCFP builds the capacity of African professionals, researchers, educators, and graduate students on themes of climate change adaptation in Africa. Applications are invited for the program's Teaching Fellowships. Recipients travel to suitable host institutions to work with established and qualified mentors to strengthen teaching on climate change. The Teaching Fellowships are a maximum of US$7,500 for periods of up to six months. Eligibility extends to university educators who are citizens of an African country, and based at an African institution. Applications are particularly encouraged from women and traditionally under-represented regions and countries of Africa. The deadline for applications (English or French) is 12 March 2012. Link

Open Society Foundations and EARTH University -- Scholarships for Applicants from Haiti, Liberia, and Sierra Leone

The Open Society Foundations will provide undergraduate scholarships for students from Haiti, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to study at EARTH University in Costa Rica. The focus is on natural resources management, agriculture, and social entrepreneurship. The deadline for students in Liberia and Sierra Leone is 15 March 2012; the deadline for students in Haiti is 30 April 2012. Link
