The CDKN is collaborating with the CARIBSAVE Partnership to fund research related to climate change in the Caribbean. The priorities are: (i) responding to climate change impacts, and (ii) policies and processes for development compatible with climate change. Grants range from US$45 thousand to US$90 thousand for periods of 12-18 months. Proposals must include at least one research organization from each country where the research is to be conducted, whether a project is national or regional. The ACCFP builds the capacity of African professionals, researchers, educators, and graduate students on themes of climate change adaptation in Africa. Applications are invited for the program's Teaching Fellowships. Recipients travel to suitable host institutions to work with established and qualified mentors to strengthen teaching on climate change. The Teaching Fellowships are a maximum of US$7,500 for periods of up to six months. Eligibility extends to university educators who are citizens of an African country, and based at an African institution. Applications are particularly encouraged from women and traditionally under-represented regions and countries of Africa. The deadline for applications (English or French) is 12 March 2012. Link |

The Open Society Foundations will provide undergraduate scholarships for students from Haiti, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to study at EARTH University in Costa Rica. The focus is on natural resources management, agriculture, and social entrepreneurship. The deadline for students in Liberia and Sierra Leone is 15 March 2012; the deadline for students in Haiti is 30 April 2012. Link |

OSSREA intends to publish a book on environmental degradation and the decline of natural resources and biodiversity in the coastal areas of the Western Indian Ocean. It offers US$5 thousand to authors who address OSSREA's priority topics in any one of the relevant coastal states (Kenya, Mozambique, Somalia, South Africa, and Tanzania) and island states (Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion, and Seychelles). Applicants should be nationals of Eastern and Southern Africa, and should be affiliated with institutions based in Eastern and Southern Africa. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 15 March 2012. USAID in Addis Ababa will fund the Pastoralists Areas Resiliency Improvement and Market Expansion (PRIME) project to increase household incomes and improve the resiliency and adaptive capacity of Ethiopian pastoral communities to climate change. The program will allocate over US$48 million for five years to improve livestock markets and policies for targeted districts in the regions of Somali, Afar, and Oromia. START makes grants to African scientists to conduct collaborative research and assessments of global environmental change in Africa. The priority is for understanding links between ecosystem services, agriculture, food security, and sustainable livelihoods. The EC will provide grants to reduce food insecurity in the Palestinian Territory by supporting the livelihoods of small-scale olive producers. Priorities are institutional support; agricultural practices; water management; and olive-oil marketing. Grants range from €1 million to €2.5 million, subject to co-financing requirements.
