The Terra Viva Grants Directory provides information about international grant funding for agriculture, energy, environment, and natural resources in the developing world. We present the following summary of what we do.
- We focus on grant makers (donors) serving the developing world. Most of the world’s population is there, but most of the world’s funding is not.
- Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands
- East Asia
- South Asia
- Eurasia and Central Asia
- Eastern Europe and Russia
- Middle East and North Africa
- Sub-Saharan Africa
- Latin America and Caribbean
- Most users
of our information are grant seekers – people searching for financial support of
their work as individuals or as organizations.
- We deliver
information about funding opportunities, but we do not offer money. That is, we do not make grants or provide any
other form of financial assistance.
- Grant
makers included in the Terra Viva Grants Directory range from funders of community projects
to funders of science and research. Visitors
to our website are found at both ends of this spectrum, and in the middle of
it.
- Our outreach
over the internet is global. In most months,
our website is visited by individuals in over 180 countries.
- Our
inclusion of grant makers is similarly global.
Most international grant making originates in Western Europe and North America. But
we also include relevant grant makers located in the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and elsewhere.
- We take a
cross-institutional view of grant making to include international
organizations, national government organizations, and foundations and
NGOs.
- Our
grants information is available at no cost except for the cost of internet
connection.
Our Contribution at the Terra Viva Grants Directory
We intend to help grant seekers to save time and money, to keep current, and to expand
their thinking about where to look for funding. We also
contribute to equity regarding who has access to funding opportunities.
- Saving
Time: We
systematically scan hundreds of sources of grants in the international green
sectors by combing a variety of information streams. We select the most relevant opportunities for
presentation in standard formats. Grant seekers are able to review and filter
the information in the Terra Viva Grants Directory, according to their interests.
- Saving
Money: Printed and online directories of
grant makers are available, and many directories are free. But other directories have to be purchased, often
at a substantial cost. Grant seekers can
turn to consultants, but consulting services are seldom free. The Terra Viva Grants Directory is pleased to offer an
entirely free service.
- Keeping
Current: The world of grant making is constantly
changing. We review the profiles of
grant makers throughout the year to add new ones, remove inactive ones, and
update information in all parts of the website. Our grants calendar is usually updated every
week.
- Expanded Grants
Search: Even experienced grant seekers
may discover relevant grant makers they had not previously considered – often for
lack of prior information. Individuals
who carefully explore the Terra Viva Grants Directory are able to scan for grant makers which
merit further investigation.
- Equitable Access
to Information: We are helping to democratize the world of grant
opportunities. Most large organizations
rely on the services of a professional staff to identify grant opportunities. Individuals and small organizations need
other ways to obtain their information. For
these smaller actors, the Terra Viva Grants Directory can play the role of a virtual office.
Here are examples of What People Say About Us.
How We Organize Our Information
Grant makers in the Directory are organized into three categories: International Organizations; Government Organizations; and Foundations, Corporations, and Civil Society.
About the Profiles presents our criteria for including listed grant makers, and explains the data which comprise each profile.
Funding News posts application deadlines; new and changed grant programs; and other funding news.
We are pleased to offer additional references about funding for the international green sector. Thus Links and Resources provides our selection of useful references for grant searches.
